Sporting Kansas City II announced today the club’s schedule and roster for the 2022 preseason ahead of the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro season.
Head coach Benny Feilhaber and assistant coach Ike Opara will open preseason camp at Swope Soccer Village today before departing for Indianapolis on Friday, Feb. 18 to play two preseason matches in five days.
The club opens preseason competition with a match against Indy Eleven on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 12 p.m. CT at Grand Park. The clubs certainly have some familiarity, as they have faced off eight times in the last two seasons.
On Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. CT, SKC II will face off against Chicago Fire FC MLS NEXT Pro at Grand Park before returning home to Kansas City following the match. This marks Sporting KC II’s first-ever matchup with an MLS NEXT Pro side.
The team will continue training at Swope Soccer Village until Saturday, March 5 when the group will head south for a match against FC Tulsa. The exhibition is set for 2 p.m. CT at Titan Sports Complex. The last time these two sides dueled, they produced a 1-1 draw at Children’s Mercy Park with a goal from Sporting KC loanee Kayden Pierre.
Sporting KC II finishes out the preseason with two matches at Swope Soccer Village. First, SKC II welcomes USL League One champions Union Omaha to Swope Soccer Village on Sunday, March 13 at 2 p.m. CT before closing out the preseason against the Kansas City Roos Men’s Soccer Team on Saturday, March 19 at 2 p.m. CT.

SKC II starts preseason with top Sporting KC Academy prospects and a core of MLS NEXT Pro players including Jahon Rad, Aljaz Dzankic, Spencer Glass and Collin Fernandez. In addition, Sporting KC II is joined by trialists looking to sign an MLS NEXT Pro contract.
When the MLS NEXT Pro regular season starts, the Sporting KC II roster will be rounded out with loanees from the first team and other top Sporting KC Academy talent. Additional information, including the MLS NEXT Pro regular season schedule, will be released at a later date.
