For the second time in 2015, a superb long-range strike from Benny Feilhaber has won AT&T MLS Goal of the Week.
Week 21 produced 39 goals from around the league, but none were better than Feilhaber's missile in the 50th minute of a 2-1 defeat at Real Salt Lake last Friday. The MLS All-Star has been playing at an MVP level this season, recording career-highs with seven goals and 10 assists. His latest golazo came just five minutes after entering the game at halftime when he received a pass from Roger Espinoza and beat Salt Lake goalkeeper Jeff Attinella from 30 yards out.
Feilhaber won 34.6 percent of the vote, comfortably in front of four nominees below him.
Orlando City forward Cyle Larin was second, followed by Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco in third and New York City FC's David Villa in fourth. Houston Dynamo's Leonel Mirando, who is set to visit Sporting Park on Saturday, was fifth.
1. Benny Feilhaber (SKC)– 34.6%
2. Cyle Larin (ORL) – 19.9%
3. Sebastian Giovinco (TOR) – 17.4%
4. David Villa (NYC) – 15.3%
5. Leonel Miranda (HOU) – 12.9%
Feilhaber has claimed Goal of the Week honors on two occasions in 2015, and both goals will be up for AT&T MLS Goal of the Year at season's end. His first award came following his stunning equalizer in the 95th minute of a 4-4 draw at Houston on April 25 (Week 8).
