Jaylin Lindsey logs three starts for U.S. U-17s in Nike International Friendlies

Jaylin Lindsey - United States Under-15 Boys' National Team

Sporting Kansas City Academy defender Jaylin Lindsey featured in three matches for the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team in last week’s Nike International Friendlies at Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. Lindsey started all three games as the U.S. lost 3-2 to England on Wednesday, beat the Netherlands 2-1 on Friday, and fell to Brazil 3-0 on Sunday.

Lindsey — who played the full 90 minutes against England and the Netherlands before going 57 minutes vs. Brazil — joined 19 other American players born in 2000 to participate in the Nike Friendlies, a premier annual event for youth men's national teams that began in 2001. This year’s friendlies were contested by current U.S. U-15 players whose ultimate aim is the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

A 15-year-old sophomore at Blue Valley West High School, Lindsey has started regularly for the Sporting Kansas City U-16s this year after playing nine games for the club during the 2014-15 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season. He made his first appearance for the U.S. U-15s last December and participated in a week-long training camp last month in Bradenton, Florida.

Lindsey has made seven appearances this year for a Sporting KC U-16 team that is currently in fourth place in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Frontier Division. He was recently named TopDrawerSoccer.com’s No. 4 prospect for players graduating high school in 2018.

While Lindsey was competing at the Nike Friendlies, the Sporting KC Academy U-18s and U-16s were also in Florida this weekend for three games each in the annual U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase.

The U-18s lost to Crew SC Wolves 2-1 on Thursday, beat the Portland Timbers 2-1 on Friday, and drew LA Galaxy 1-1 on Sunday. The U-18s sit at 7-5-1 going into the winter break, good for fifth place in the Frontier Division. The U-16s, meanwhile, dropped three straight against the New England Revolution, New York Red Bulls and Crossfire Premier to end the first half of the season with a 7-6-0 record, fourth place in the Frontier Division.
