Recap: Swope Park Rangers earn 2-1 win on the road against Tulsa Roughnecks FC

The Swope Park Rangers claimed a second consecutive 2-1 victory on Saturday night, earning a one-goal victory over Tulsa Roughnecks FC at ONEOK Field. Dane Kelly scored in the first half before Nansel Selbol added the winning goal late on, while Taylor Morgan pulled a goal back in the final seconds for the Roughnecks.

The Rangers (2-0-0) took the lead in the 11th minute, when Kevin Oliveira found Kelly just outside the area. Kelly was able to turn and fight off a few challenges before hitting a thunderous left-footed strike past Alex Mangels in the Tulsa (1-1-0) goal and make the score 1-0.

In the 34th minute, SPR almost went 2-0 up but Oliveira’s effort from close range was cleared off the line by Gary Cennerazzo. Just before the halftime whistle, Jon Kempin was forced into action to block a low effort from former Sporting KC Academy teammate Ray Lee to keep the Rangers’ lead intact.

SPR soaked up pressure for much of the second half but created the best opportuntiies on the break. Tyler Pasher, Tomas Granitto, Mark Anthony Gonzalez and Kelly all saw efforts saved by Mangels before Nansel Selbol finally found the second goal in stoppage time.

A quick throw-in from Daniel Salloi found Selbol on the edge of the Tulsa area, and the Academy product volleyed into the bottom corner to make the score 2-0. However, just like the previous week where SPR let up a goal in the final seconds against Portland Timbers 2, the Roughnecks snatched a goal back with seconds remaining through Taylor Morgan but the Rangers were able to see out the victory and improve to 2-0-0.
