The Swope Park Rangers will return to action on Wednesday, April 27 when they host Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 in the club’s first-ever home game at Children’s Mercy Victory Field in Swope Soccer Village. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be live streamed on SportingKC.com
The Rangers received a boost on Tuesday with the announcement that Sporting KC midfielder Jordi Quintilla had joined the side on loan ahead of Wednesday night's game. The club suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday night, falling to a 1-0 defeat against OKC Energy FC behind a 79th-minute goal from Kalen Ryden. That result means SPR are currently 2-1-1 on the season, with their seven points placing them in a tie for fifth place in the Western Conference.
Whitecaps FC 2 are one of three remaining undefeated teams in the USL this season, going 2-0-2 across their first four matches. In their most recent game, Vancouver came back from two goals down to claim a point in a 2-2 draw at LA Galaxy II after second-half goals from Fatawu Safiu and Kyle Greig – who attended college locally at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan.
Wednesday’s game is the only time the Rangers will face Whitecaps FC 2 at home this season, with SPR heading north of the border to face Vancouver at UBC Thunderbird Stadium on Sunday, June 12.
The Rangers revealed several gameday festivities for the game, including $1 hot dogs, complimentary coffee and a commemorative poster series. In addition, the Rangers will recognize MidAmerica Nazarene University’s men’s soccer team for reaching the NAIA Championship game in 2015, while also supporting the University’s humanitarian project, LQVE HAITI.
Tickets starting as low as $12 are available on the Swope Park Rangers Ticketmaster page or by calling 888-4KC-GOAL. Tickets will also be available to purchase at the box office at Swope Soccer Village on Wednesday evening.
