Sporting KC and the Sporting Club Network (SCN) are proud to recognize the 2017 college commitments from the Sporting KC Academy & Academy Affiliate clubs across the Midwest. Over 175 total male & female players from these various programs have already committed to play at the collegiate level, making the decision to further their soccer career and continue their education.
This past February 1st marked National Signing Day for high school soccer players around the country. From that day on, high school athletes are allowed to begin their college career by signing their National Letter of Intent, announcing their commitment to participate in collegiate athletics. Between the 15 Academy Affiliates, more than 168 boys and girls have committed to universities and colleges across 21 states throughout the country, with more announcements coming in weekly.
In addition to these affiliate commitments, a number of Sporting KC Academy players will be moving on to participate in collegiate athletics as well. Continuing a tradition of pushing players on to the collegiate ranks, former Academy players will be competing this coming fall at the University of Akron, Gonzaga University, St. Louis University, Drake University, University of Denver & various other top programs across the country
Building on these tremendous efforts from the Academy Affiliate clubs, & the best practices of the SKC Academy, the Sporting Club Network is preparing to pour additional resources into assisting even more players reaching the collegiate level in future years. With Sporting KC’s recognized “Pathway to the Pros” initiative successfully established throughout the Academy Affiliates and Sporting KC Academy, the club is now focused on providing more help towards the remaining majority of the competitive players in its system, & especially the female membership at these affiliate clubs.
This new college prep initiative will provide players with the necessary steps, planning tools, and events to successfully get into universities and colleges around the country to further their soccer careers. With these efforts, the hope is that the number of commitments from the Academy Affiliates and Sporting KC Academy will only continue to grow year by year. Once again, Sporting KC congratulates this year’s college commits & wishes them all the best of luck later this fall.
