The Sporting KC Academy will head to Texas this week for the annual Generation adidas Cup, an elite youth tournament for U-17 academy teams. In addition to academy programs from across MLS, select international teams have been invited to Dallas including Real Madrid, Chivas de Guadalajara and River Plate.
Sporting KC will compete in the Champions Division and will kick off the tournament on Friday against LA Galaxy at 2:30pm CT. They will then play German side Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday before concluding the group stage against Brazilian club Flamengo on Tuesday. The top team from each group as well as the best overall second place team will advance to the semifinals.
Below is the list of 20 players that will compete in the tournament for Sporting KC including Max Rugova (pictured, above) who made his debut for the Swope Park Rangers in a 1-0 win over Portland Timbers 2 last Wednesday. Five players on the roster have been with U.S. youth national teams over the past year, while Abdu Kikhia has represented Libya at the youth level.
