2014 will be a busy season for defending MLS Cup Champions Sporting Kansas City. The club will be competing in several competitions (MLS, CCL, Open Cup) and could potentially play upwards of 50 matches.
Here are some of the important dates for the 2014 season to circle on your calendar.
January 16: MLS SuperDraft | Sporting KC holds the 38th overall pick in this year's draft at Philadelphia
January 24-February 8: Preseason in Tucson | The first leg of preseason in which the team will play several friendly matches
February 1: USA vs South Korea | The USMNT's January camp concludes with a friendly match at the Stub Hub Center
February 14-March 2: Preseason in Orlando | The second leg of preseason in which the team features in the Disney Pro Soccer Classic tournament
March 5: FIFA International Date | A full slate of friendly matches and AFC Asian Cup qualifiers
March 8: Sporting KC at Seattle Sounders | The 2014 MLS regular season kicks off at CenturyLink Field
March 12: Sporting KC vs Cruz Azul | The opening leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals and first match of 2014 at Sporting Park
March 15: Sporting KC vs FC Dallas | The MLS regular season home opener against Western Conference side FC Dallas
March 19: Sporting KC at Cruz Azul | The second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals in Mexico City
April 5: Sporting KC vs Real Salt Lake | Sporting KC hosts Real Salt Lake in a rematch MLS Cup 2013
April 23 & 30: CCL Final | The 2013-14 tournament concludes with a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup on the line
May 27: Sporting KC vs New York Red Bulls | A matchup of the top two Eastern Conference sides from 2013
June (dates TBD): 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup | Sporting KC starts the quest for a third U.S. Open Cup
June 2: World Cup Roster Deadline | The 23 players for each country will be finalized
June 12: FIFA World Cup 2014 | The tournament begins with hosts Brazil taking on Croatia
June 16: Ghana vs USA (World Cup) | The United States opens the World Cup against African side Ghana
June 22: Portugal vs USA (World Cup) | A tough test for the Americans as they face Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal
June 26: USA vs Germany (World Cup) | The final group stage match for the USA against one of the tournament favorites
July 13: FIFA World Cup 2014 Final | The final match of the tournament which will take place at Estadi Jornalista Mario Filho
July 19: Sporting KC vs LA Galaxy | One of the marquee matches of the summer in MLS
August (dates TBD): CCL Group Stage | Sporting KC begins play in the 2014-15 edition of the tournament
August 6: AT&T MLS All-Star Game | The top MLS players face German side Bayern Munich in Portland
October 26: Sporting KC vs New York Red Bulls | The final MLS regular season match
November (dates TBD): MLS Cup Playoffs | The playoffs begin as Sporting KC aims for their third league championship
December (date TBD): MLS Cup 2014 | The final match of the playoffs with the winner to lift MLS Cup
December 10-20: FIFA Club World Cup | The tournament which features top clubs from around the world including the 2013-14 CCL winner
