U.S. Soccer will conduct a draw at 5:30 p.m. CT tonight to determine the match-ups and hosts for the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Third Round, which will take place on April 25-26 as 18 MLS teams, including Sporting Kansas City, enter the competition. Tonight’s draw will be available to watch live on the Bleacher Report app and B/R Football YouTube channel.
The 48 teams in this year’s U.S. Open Cup Third Round will be pooled geographically into groups of either four or six, depending on geographic distribution, with MLS clubs distributed as evenly as possibly among the groups per the competition structure. The 18 MLS clubs entering in the Third Round will be drawn to face one of the 30 Second Round winners from American soccer’s lower divisions.

Sporting Kansas City are four-time champions of the U.S. Open Cup (2004, 2012, 2015, 2017) and reached the semifinals in 2022. Now in its 108th edition, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup – U.S. Soccer's national championship – has crowned a champion since 1914. The history-filled tournament is conducted on a single-game-knockout basis and open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer.
The 2023 U.S. Open Cup winner will earn $300,000 in prize money, a berth in the 2024 Concacaf Champions League and have its name engraved on the Dewar Challenge Trophy – one of the oldest nationally-contested trophies in American team sports.
