Sporting Kansas City Academy forward Gianluca Busio has joined the U.S. Under-15 Boys’ National Team for its final domestic training camp of 2016, set to take place from Nov. 5-12 in Bradenton, Florida.
The training camp is highlighted by two games on Tuesday as the U.S. U-15s face U.S. Soccer Development Academy sides Chargers SC and Weston SC at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. CT, respectively. Led by head coach Dave van den Bergh, the U-15 BNT will also play an intra-squad scrimmage on Friday at 3 p.m. CT.
Among the 36 players named to the roster, all but one currently play for clubs in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.
A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Busio moved to the Sporting Kansas City Academy this fall after spending the 2015-16 USSDA campaign with the North Carolina Fusion. The 14-year-old has featured for Sporting KC at the U-14 and U-16 level this season, scoring five goals in seven combined USSDA appearances.
Busio most recently netted a hat-trick in the U-16s’ 4-1 win over the Colorado Rush on Oct. 29. He also made two appearances for Sporting KC at the prestigious U-17 Generation adidas Cup in early October, converting his penalty kick in a victorious shootout against the Chicago Fire on Oct. 7 at Swope Soccer Village.
Busio is one of seven current Sporting KC Academy players who have trained this fall with various U.S. youth national teams.
