Alex Bunbury, father of Sporting KC forward Teal Bunbury and a former KC forward (1999-2000), was honored by the Canadian Soccer Association on Sunday as part of the federation's centennial celebration in conjunction with the Canada-USA international friendly. Alex was named to the All-Time Canada XI, as selected by fans, and was recognized in a special unveiling ceremony at BMO Field.
Alex appeared in 24 regular season matches during his KC career, tallying four goals (including the 2,000th in MLS history) and four assists. His bio from the Canadian Soccer Association is below:
Alex Bunbury is Canada’s all-time goal-scoring leader in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, having scored 11 times in 31 appearances over three cycles. A two-time Canadian Player of the Year (1993 and 1995), he played his professional soccer in Canada, England, Portugal and USA. He became an honoured member of The Soccer Hall of Fame in 2005.
