The 2017 SuperDraft saw Major League Soccer take another step in its aim to provide greater transparency around transactions.
Friday marked the first time in league history that exact amounts of General and Targeted Allocation Money were disclosed in trade deals. Six such trades were made during the draft in Los Angeles, adding up to $725,000 in Allocation Money changing hands.
This seminal moment for MLS aligns with a league-wide effort to become more transparent around trades, signings and other player acquisition mechanisms. Over the last few months, clubs have regularly begun to disclose players’ contract lengths and contract options.
