Beyond The Box Score: Historic defensive run ends in Minnesota

Sunday's 2-0 setback at Minnesota United FC snapped a historic defensive run for Sporting Kansas City.

Prior to this weekend's fixture at TCF Bank Stadium, Manager Peter Vermes' men had gone 12 straight MLS matches allowing one or fewer goals. Including playoff matches, that equaled the longest such streak in club history.

The Loons struck twice in the first half Sunday afternoon to vanquish Sporting Kansas City's hopes of setting a new record, but the feat nonetheless illustrates their stout defensive form since the end of last season.
