Beyond The Box Score: Sporting KC hits 1,000 regular-season goals

Sporting Kansas City hit a major milestone Saturday night when Gerso Fernandes embarked on a stunning solo effort in the 50th minute of a 3-2 defeat to FC Dallas at Children's Mercy Park.


The diminutive winger split a pair of defenders and curled a brilliant left-footed strike into the far left corner, drawing his side level at 1-1 and giving Sporting KC its 1,000th regular-season goal in club history.


Homegrown forward Daniel Salloi added a late consolation goal for Sporting KC in the 97th minute, giving the team 1,001 goals all-time in the MLS regular season. Below is a breakdown of Kansas City's statistical achievement, as they join LA Galaxy (1,145), New York Red Bulls (1,090), D.C. United (1,074), FC Dallas (1,063) Columbus Crew SC (1,047) and the New England Revolution 1,007) in the One Thousand Club.

Another Texas club awaits Sporting KC next Saturday as Vermes’ men travel to face rivals Houston Dynamo for the third time in six weeks. Kickoff at BBVA Compass Stadium is set for 8 p.m. CT on FOX Sports Kansas City Plus, FOX Sports Midwest Plus and FOX Sports GO.
