Sporting Kansas City has advanced to the semifinal stage of the Concacaf Champions League for the first time in club history after claiming a 4-2 aggregate victory over Panamanian outfit Independiente in the quarterfinals, overturning a 2-1 deficit with a 3-0 win in Thursday’s second leg at Children’s Mercy Park.
Single-game tickets for the second leg of the 2019 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Semifinals between Sporting and Mexican giants Monterrey at Children’s Mercy Park will go on sale at 10 a.m. CT Friday at SeatGeek.com. Tickets for the contest are included in Sporting Kansas City Season Ticket Member packages.
Sporting will visit Monterrey for the first leg at Estadio BBVA Bancomer before hosting the Mexican side in the decisive return fixture, with semifinal dates set for April 2-4 and April 9-11.
Concacaf will announce exact dates and kickoff times for all Concacaf Champions League semifinal matches in the near term. The other semifinal matchup features Liga MX rivals Santos Laguna and Tigres UANL.
Led by Manager Peter Vermes, Sporting are the last Major League Soccer club remaining in the 2019 Concacaf Champions League. No MLS team has won the prestigious tournament since the modern era of the Champions League began in 2008. Mexican sides have won each of the last 13 continental titles, including Monterrey’s run of three straight from 2011-2013.
