Children's Mercy Park to feature expanded food menu for Sporting KC's 2016 season

Legends Hospitality and Sporting Kansas City will launch more than 20 new menu items for the 2016 Major League Soccer season at Children's Mercy Park. The menu will debut on March 12, when Sporting KC takes on the Vancouver Whitecaps FC at 7:30 p.m. in the team's first home game of the 2016 regular season. 


The culinary team at Children's Mercy Park has developed an even more expanded selection of infinitely delicious fresh flavors for fans to enjoy each and every match day. For every appetite, there's always something to love on the menus. 


Kevin Stenberg, the new executive chef at Children's Mercy Park, is leading the star stadium culinary team in preparing delicious recipes for fans this season. Along with deep experience in fine dining and innovative restaurant concept success, Chef Kevin comes to Children's Mercy Park having led fine food and beverage programs for other also-prestigious American sports and entertainment destinations, including BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem, NC; Constellation Field in Houston; and AT&T Stadium in Arlington/Dallas. 


The additional menu items at Children's Mercy Park will be featured at both existing locations and at new food destinations throughout the stadium. New destinations include: 


Wok This Way

This is the go-to station for all your Asian food cravings. 


What to get: Wok-wow chicken, beef, shrimp or tofu rice bowls, including white and brown rice and fresh vegetables. 


Where to go: Section 120


The Big Cheese

A new culinary action station with gourmet grilled sandwiches with one main ingredient: cheese. Plus top off your extra-special grilled cheese with a traditional side of tomato soup. 


What to get: Check out the Short Rib Mac Grilled Cheese sandwich for a classic Kansas City spin on your favorite traditional grilled cheese. This sandwich is a mesmerizing melty combination of braised beef short ribs and cheddar cheese on Texas toast. 


Where to go: Section 117


The Fresh Market

For a healthier in-stadium option, look no further than this new food experience featuring farm-to-fan fresh fruits and vegetables. It's also the perfect place to go for your kids' favorite foods. 


What to get: Triple Decker Brioche PB&J, with all-natural peanut butter on fresh-basked Farm to Market brioche with plenty of seasonal fruit jam. It's good to share with the kids or just eat yourself for a good kick of nostalgia.

The Wine and Cheese Cart

If you're looking to class up your game experience, check out the Wine and Cheese Cart, with pairing of top wines by the bottle, fine cheese and an abundance of dessert platters. 


What to get: Red wine, white wine, gouda, cheddar, brie... It's hard to go wrong. Pick your favorite wine or favorite cheese and ask for the best complementary pairing. 


Where to go: Section 122. 


In addition to the food station options, new premium dishes will also be available on the main concourse, with everything from steak ribeye sandwiches to Mexican street tacos to chicken and waffles sandwiches. Other new locations like Crafty Dogs, State Line Fare, and Stadium Fare will also feature a variety of new menu options that will debut at the first Sporting KC home game of the season. 


Looking for some more drink options? The Charred Oak Bourbon Bar located at Section 113 is the new cocktail destination for Sporting Kansas City fans. The bar even includes a signature Beam Barrel bourbon, crafted and aged especially for Children's Mercy Park. Plus, sample the new Best Damn Root Beer from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on the concourse.
