You might as well call Kansas City the city of champions.
The Kansas City Chiefs claimed their first Super Bowl title in 50 years on Sunday, battling from behind to defeat the San Francisco 49ers in a 31-20 thriller that culminated with MVP honors for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
By winning the Super Bowl, head coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs joined their fellow Kansas City counterparts as recent league champions. Sporting Kansas City, of course, won the 2013 MLS Cup and three U.S. Open Cup titles last decade, while the Kansas City Royals were crowned 2015 World Series champions.
As @KC2026WorldCup pointed out on Twitter, Kansas City is the only city to win NFL, MLB and MLS championships since Major League Soccer launched in 1996.
Sports statistician guru and Kansas native Paul Carr, meanwhile, tweeted that Kansas City is the only city since the dawn of the Super Bowl era to win two Super Bowls, two World Series and two MLS Cups.
