Daniel Salloi notches goal and assist as Hungary U-21s defeat Cyprus 2-0

Daniel Salloi - Hungary U-21s celebration

Sporting Kansas City forward Daniel Salloi delivered a sparkling performance for the Hungary U-21s on Tuesday, scoring a goal and assisting another in a 2-0 victory over Cyprus at AEK Arena in Larnaca, Cyprus.

Salloi bagged the match-winner in the 50th minute and set up Attila Haris’ strike with 10 minutes remaining as Hungary vaulted into a tie for second place in Group 6 of UEFA European U-21 Championship Qualifying.

Four days after making his Hungary U-21 debut in a 2-2 draw with Sweden, Salloi fired the Magyars ahead early in the second half with a close-range blast after Cyprus goalkeeper did well to deny Dominik Szoboszlai and Bence Biro. The goal was Salloi’s first at the U-21 international level and his seventh of 2017 for club and country, having scored six times for Sporting KC in all competitions.

Sporting KC’s homegrown product was involved in doubling the advantage half an hour later, streaking down the right side of the box before sliding a perfect cutback to Haris, who slotted low into the corner to seal the victory.

Salloi became Sporting KC’s fourth Homegrown Player in January 2016 and spent most of last year on loan with the Swope Park Rangers and Hungarian club Gyirmot SE. The 2017 campaign was his first in MLS as the Budapest native tallied three league goals and also struck three times in Sporting KC’s run to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title.
