On Saturday night, supporters were treated to a second-screen commentary as Gianluca Busio, Johnny Russell and Ilie Sanchez joined Nate Bukaty to break down Sporting Kansas City's record-breaking 7-1 win over the Montreal Impact from March 30, 2019.
On this day in 2014, the helpless Impact were the victim of another Sporting smackdown.
Six years ago today, Manager Peter Vermes' men raced to a 4-0 victory at Children's Mercy Park in a game where Montreal never really stood much of a chance. Donning their hugely popular black argyle kits, Sporting took a 1-0 lead to halftime on a Calum Mallace own goal before finding a second gear in the final 20 minutes.
French center back Aurelien Collin doubled the advantage on 71 minutes and Dom Dwyer bagged a late brace to put the finishing touches on a resounding performance. Montreal mustered just three shot attempts all night long and saw their early-season record drop to 0-4-3 in the process.
Dwyer ravaged Montreal in 2014, netting six goals in three appearances against the Canadian club. In doing so, the Englishman became the 10th MLS player to score six or more regular season goals against the same opponent in a single year and the first of that group to do so since the league's expansion era began in 2005.
