Sporting Kansas City forward Dejan Joveljic was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi on Monday as one of the top 20 players in Major League Soccer for Matchday 4 of the regular season.
Joveljic struck for the game-tying goal -- his second goal in as many matches at Children's Mercy Park -- to cap off a historic comeback as Sporting rallied to earn a result after trailing by three goals for the first time in club history in Saturday's 3-3 draw against Minnesota United FC.
The Designated Player unleashed a shot from 15 yards out that caromed off the far post and into the back of the net in the 80th minute, completing the fourth latest comeback from a three-goal deficit in MLS regular season history after Sporting had previously struck in the 68th and 72nd minutes.
Joveljic now has eight goals in his last eight MLS starts and the Serbian striker has contributed goals in his last seven home games in MLS play.
Acquired from the LA Galaxy in the first cash-for-player trade in MLS history during the offseason, the 25-year-old Joveljic recorded 21 goals and eight assists across all competitions in 2024 to lead LA to a record sixth MLS Cup title.
Sporting Kansas City will next host LAFC at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Children's Mercy Park in a rematch of last year's Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final.
