Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Eric Kronberg claimed the first MLS Save of the Week honor of his career on Friday, collecting the Week 9 award for his 31st minute save on Bernardo Anor in Sunday's 2-0 win over Columbus.
"The save in the first half was just a quick, reaction save. It was a good cross and a good header, but luckily I was able to get my hand down to it," Kronberg said. "I’m happy to get the clean sheet, and I thought it was a fantastic result for us."
“It was unbelievable,” Sporting KC midfielder Oriol Rosell said. “When I saw Anor hitting with his head, I thought it was a goal. And then Krony made that save, and I was there, and I just cleared it as soon as possible.”
"It's very difficult for a goalkeeper to keep himself in the game and make the saves that he needs to at the right time," Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes said. "In the first half, the one save that he made on the header from 6-8 yards out was a great save. That keeps us in the game."

Kronberg claimed a commanding lead in Save of the Week voting conducted by MLSsoccer.com, more than doubling the number of votes received by runner-up Zac MacMath.

Kronberg is tied for the league lead with four shutouts in 2014 and has a 0.75 goals against average during the regular season, his first as the club's No. 1 goalkeeper. With today's award comes automatic entry into MLS Save of the Year voting at the conclusion of the 2014 season.
