For a third time this season, Sporting Kansas City midfielder Erik Thommy was selected to MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi on Monday for Matchday 17 of the 2023 MLS regular season. The 28-year-old German provided his fourth assist of the year in Saturday's 1-1 draw in Vancouver and led all SKC players with 68 touches in the road result.
In the 20th minute, Thommy whipped in a right-footed corner kick that was met at the near post by Alan Pulido, who glanced an inch-perfect header into the far left corner. Thommy now has two goals and three assists since the start of May to give the Designated Player five goals and five assists in the MLS regular season since joining the club last summer.
Among MLS midfielders, Thommy ranks third in shots on goal, fourth in total shots and sixth in chances created from set play this season. Thommy partnered in the midfield with Remi Walter and Nemanja Radoja on Saturday - a trio that is now unbeaten in four matches when starting together following road draws at Philadelphia, LAFC and Vancouver along with a 3-0 home win over Minnesota.
After collecting seven points in seven days last week, Sporting Kansas City will host Austin FC at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Children's Mercy Park. Tickets for the Western Conference clash are available online at SeatGeek, including the Sporting U Pass featuring $15 Supporters' Stand tickets for college students and the Coca-Cola Friends & Family 4-Pack featuring four Domino's pizzas, four 20-ounce Coca-Cola products and four tickets for $100.
