This past weekend Sporting Kansas City held its first ever Academy Affiliate Tournament at the YSI Soccer Complex in Lawrence, Kansas. The Academy Affiliate Program is made up of five Midwest clubs that have a close partnership and direct connection with both our Academy Teams and our pro team. These clubs receive exclusive benefits for their members from Sporting KC such as Coaching Education, assistance with curriculums, clinics in their market and the opportunity to wear and use the “Sporting” marks.
Teams from Sporting St. Louis Rangers, Tulsa SC Hurricane, Sporting Lincoln FC, Kaw Valley Soccer Association, Sporting Blue Valley, and Prodigy Soccer Club all came out to participate in the first edition of this friendly tournament. As the Sporting Club Network and our Academy Affiliate program continue to grow, we hope to develop even more exciting events like this that bring together all of our member clubs.
As a bonus to all the fantastic games this weekend, select Sporting KC staff along with some of our U16 Academy players came out to Lawrence on Sunday morning to help run a clinic for all the kids who made the drive from Tulsa. And while our coaches were on the field putting the Tulsa kids through their training session, SKC players Dom Dwyer and Konrad Warzycha stopped by to sign autographs for everyone in attendance that morning.
