MLS Jersey Week presented by adidas continued Friday in one of the best ways imaginable for local youth athletes at Special Olympics Kansas and Special Olympics Missouri.
Donning their favorite Sporting jerseys as part of #FlyKitFriday, Special Olympics athletes had the opportunity to interact with Sporting midfielder Ilie Sanchez.
Sporting Kansas City and The Victory Project, the club's flagship charitable arm, regularly engage with Special Olympics Kansas and Special Olympics Missouri on an annual basis. In what has become a yearly tradition, Sporting Kansas City signs Special Olympics athletes to two-game contracts each summer. In the weeks that follow, these youths effectively live out some of their biggest dreams.
Sporting is among the several clubs connecting with local Special Olympics chapters to host exchange games in their venues, giving athletes with intellectual disabilities a unique opportunity to shine under the stadium lights. The annual exchange games are a product of the partnership between Special Olympics and MLS WORKS, Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative dedicated to addressing important social issues while serving as a platform for both league and club philanthropic programs.
