The first leg of the 2016 Generation adidas Cup concluded on Monday with three matches at Children's Mercy Victory Field at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri. Each match featured two 40-minute halves. A regulation win earned a team three points. If the score was tied after 80 minutes, the two teams went to penalty kicks. The winner of penalty kicks receives two points with the loser receiving one point. The tournament now heads to Houston where each team will play three more games in February. The top teams after the conclusion of the group stage will advance to the championship event in Dallas.

Toronto FC 3, Columbus Crew SC 2
Toronto FC and Columbus Crew SC opened up the day with a pulsating encounter that saw TFC take their third straight win of the tournament. Zakaria Abdi got Toronto off to the perfect start, slamming a shot into the corner just 58 seconds into the contest. Columbus grew into the game after that and produced an equalizer when Colin Biros found the near post after cutting inside on his right foot in the 30th minute.
After a slow start to the second half, the game came to life in the final six minutes. First, Toronto’s Noble Okello Ayo rose highest at a corner to head home at the back post to give his side the lead, but Sean Zawadski hit right back for Columbus in the 78th minute with a strike from distance that flew over Rimi Otalunji to make the score 2-2. The scoring wasn’t over, as TFC would claim a last-gasp winner when right back Afram Gorgees controlled a cleared corner and struck a dipping shot into the bottom right corner from 25 yards that sealed a 3-2 victory for Toronto FC.

Houston Dynamo 4, Chicago Fire 1
Houston Dynamo earned their first win of the 2016 Generation adidas Cup with a convincing 4-1 win over Chicago Fire. Tobias McKay scored two goals to pace the Dynamo to a victory in their final day of action.
McKay scored both goals two minutes apart in the first half and were both in spectacular fashion. His first strike in the 20th minute went upper-90 past the diving goalkeeper, while his second goal, two minutes later, ricocheted off the far post before crossing the line.
The Dynamo showed well against a younger Fire squad and went up 3-0 just after halftime through Marcelo Palomino. The U.S. youth international received a ball just beyond midfield and raced toward goal. Palomino connected with Domingo Ayecaba on a give-and-go and calmly slotted his shot past Ivan Burciaga to increase the lead.
Chicago had a glimmer of hope late after Victor Bezerra scored in the 78th minute, but Heriberto Soto's strike in stoppage time sealed the 4-1 victory for Houston. The tournament now moves to Houston where the Dynamo will host the three remaining Generation adidas Cup Central Region matches in February.

FC Dallas 7, Sporting KC 4
It was a high-scoring affair at Children's Mercy Victory Field at Swope Soccer Village as FC Dallas and Sporting KC combined for 11 goals in the final match of the Generation adidas Cup in Kansas City, Missouri. FC Dallas defeated Sporting KC 7-4 behind four goals from Jesus Ferreira.
Despite the scoreline, Sporting KC were the early aggressors on Monday, taking the game to the group leaders. Grayson Barber nearly put the home side ahead in the ninth minute when he connected on a Colin Innes corner kick, but goalkeeper Michael Collodi reacted quickly to deflect the attempt. Four minutes, Cameron Duke spun his defender and danced past two more, but his cross into the penalty box went untouched.
Similar to their first two goals, it was FC Dallas that got on the board first. Ferreira scored his first of four goals in the 17th minute, when he received a Bryan Reynolds cross and finished it past goalkeeper Alex Brown from 12 yards. Reynolds got himself on the scoresheet minutes later when he picked up an errant Brown clearance and calmly slotted the ball into the net. The goal sparked a furious sequence that featured three goals in three minutes.
Sporting KC got on the scoresheet in the 22nd minute when Abdu Kikhia's shot deflected off Duke and dribbled past Collodi. Moments later, Ferreira found Reynolds for his second of the game.
The home side made three subs at halftime and they paid immediate dividends. Luke Rafanan scored in the 47th minute to cut the deficit to one and Mason Visconti tied the match one minute later with his fourth goal of the tournament.
Ferreira was not to be denied, however, and finished off another pass from Reynolds in the 54th minute to put Dallas back ahead. Second-half sub Jalen James increased the lead to two with a tap-in just minutes later.
Sporting KC pulled one goal back in the 68th minute when Jaylin Lindsey blocked a Collodi clearance into his own net, but Ferreira scored twice more - in the 74th and 80th minutes - to seal the victory
FC Dallas concludes the first stage of the tournament in first place in the Central Region with nine points and a +13 goal differential. Sporting KC is in third place with five points and a -2 goal differential.
