He might only be 16 years old, but Sporting Kansas City midfielder Gianluca Busio is already beginning to leave his mark in Major League Soccer.
The Sporting KC Academy product was named among MLSsoccer.com's top five teenage talents in MLS on Thursday, just five days after becoming the third-youngest starter in league history and the second-youngest to record an assist.
“Man of the match for me,” Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes said of Busio, who notched the game-winning assist in a 1-0 victory at the Houston Dynamo on Saturday. “For a 16-year-old to play in a game like this at the level that he did consistently for 90 minutes – he took some shots, physically, but he never got rattled, and he easily could have.”
Busio and Sporting KC are tied with expansion side Los Angeles Football Club for third place in the Western Conference. Both teams will square off for the first time this Saturday, kicking off at 9:30 p.m. CT.
