The win secures a first-place finish in Group A for the United States, which next travels to Kansas City for a rematch of the 2013 Gold Cup championship against Panama at 8:30 p.m. CT on Monday at Sporting Park. The U.S. becomes the first country to qualify for the tournament's quarterfinal round, where they will await the third-place team from either Group B or Group C.
Clint Dempsey scored in his fourth straight international match, burying a first-time finish in the 47th minute for the game's lone goal, and is now one shy of the U.S. MNT record set by Jozy Altidore with goals in five consecutive games. The goal lifted the United States to their sixth straight victory and 50th all-time in Gold Cup competition, most of any nation.
Zusi, 28, earned his 31st career international appearance since debuting for the U.S. in 2012. The World Cup veteran has two goals and four assists in 14 appearances across all competition for Sporting KC this season and is in contention for the fourth MLS All-Star honor of his career. The 2015 MLS All-Star Fan XI will be revealed live on FOX Sports 1 during halftime of USA-Panama at Sporting Park.
Monday's international doubleheader begins at 6 p.m. CT with Haiti and Honduras playing for a berth in the knockout stage. Parking lots will open at 3 p.m. CT and Futbol Fiesta begins at 4 p.m. CT on the Sprint Plaza.
