Pachuca 3, Estudiantes 1

US World Cup veteran Hérculez Gómez scored his first goal of the season and Dallas-born Marco Vidal played the entire first half as Pachuca won just their second game of the season after a seven-week dry spell.

Los Tuzos controlled the first half but couldn’t break through until the 44th minute, when they were awarded a controversial penalty kick.

Pachuca continued their control and snatched another goal at the hour mark. Gómez came on in the 77th minute and, five minutes later, slotted past the opposing ‘keeper to effectively put the game away even though Estudiantes would go on to pull one back in the 85th.

Estudiantes’ Samuel Ochoa came on in the 73rd minute, but had a quiet performance. Gomez's fellow World Cup teammate José Francisco Torres remained on the Pachuca bench.

Tigres 1, Chivas 1

Miguel Ángel Ponce played 90 minutes for Chivas and had a hand in the goal that helped his team secure a tie.

After a chippy and convoluted first half, Tigres came out roaring in the second and scored the go-ahead goal just a minute in to set an upbeat tempo in the complementary period.

Guadalajara, who couldn’t afford to drop another match, brought in three forwards to add some oomph to the attack. However, it was Ponce who made the difference.

In the 70th minute, the left back put a ball towards Tigres’ goal. In an effort to clear it, a Tigres defender ended up putting the ball into his own net to give the visitors the draw.

Jaguares 2, San Luis 1

Chiapas kept their winning streak going by breaking los Gladiadores' own winning streak. Francisco Javier López (Jaguares) and Edgar Castillo (San Luis) weren’t included in their squads’ game-day rosters.

Pumas 2, Atlante 2

Pumas jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but, in a one-minute span, los Potros Hierros scored twice to steal a point from the home side. Midfielder Sonny Guadarrama wasn’t included in Atlante’s 18-man roster.

América 3, Santos 2

Las Águilas are straight invincible at home. Faced against a tough Santos side, América stepped up to the plate and downed their opponent. Isaac Acuña didn’t dress for América.

MEXICAN LIGA DE ASCENSO
Correcaminos 1, Tijuana 1

Tijuana lost the table’s top spot but kept their unbeaten season alive by tying Correcaminos in a heated battle.

The visitors took the lead just three minutes in and were completely outplaying their opponents, but, in the 37th minute, Correcaminos found a loose ball in the box and buried it to pull even.

In the 40th minute, a couple of hard fouls led to four red cards – one for Correcaminos and three for Tijuana, one of which went to the head coach.

With a one-man advantage in the second half, Correcaminos sat back and played for the draw against a Tijuana that, although insistent, just couldn’t break through.

American Joe Corona played the first 33 minutes for Tijuana before coming off.

Mérida FC 2, León 3

Los Esmeraldas twice came back to tie the game before scoring the winner with 10 minutes left. Víctor Sánchez García wasn’t in the winning sides’ 18-man roster.

Cruz Azul Hidalgo 1, Indios 1

Despite controlling the match, Indios managed only a draw in their visit. La Tribu pulled ahead just after the half but, with 10 minutes remaining, gave up the equalizer. Joaquín Alonso didn’t dress for Indios.

ARGENTINE PRIMERA DIVISIÓN
Estudiantes de La Plata 1, Boca Juniors 0

American midfielder Michael Hoyos put in a solid 82 minutes of work in his first league start for Estudiantes as they defeated Boca Juniors.

Los Pincharratas benefitted from a goal in the first minute to dictate the match against a xeneize squad lacking drive and creativity.

In the second half, Boca pushed their lines forward, but they met an organized Estudiantes team that formed an impenetrable wall.
