Krisztian Nemeth earns 18th cap in Hungary's 0-0 draw vs. Romania

Sporting Kansas City forward Krisztian Nemeth earned his 18th international cap on Friday in Hungary’s 0-0 draw against Romania at Groupama Arena in Budapest. The 26-year-old striker played the final 20 minutes of the match as Hungary earned a point against a Romania squad ranked No. 7 in FIFA’s latest rankings.

With three matches remaining in the qualifying stage for the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament, Hungary current sits in third place in Group F with 12 teams in points. Northern Ireland leads the group with 16 points, while Romania dropped into second place with 15 points following the draw.

Nemeth entered the match in the 70th minute for Nemanja Nikolić looking to spark the Magyar attack. Unfortunately, Hungary could only muster six shot attempts with only one on goal against the Romanian defense.

Hungary will now head to Belfast for an important road match on Monday against group leader Northern Ireland. The Magyars are currently in second place among all third-place Euro qualifying. The third place team with the most points advances directly to the tournament while the remaining eight third-place teams advance to a playoff to determine the final four participants in next year’s tournament.
