Sporting Kansas City duo Johnny Russell and Roger Espinoza hit the podcast rounds recently, with Russell appearing on Soccer Talk with Aly Trost Martin and Footy Talk with Kevin Lopez, while Espinoza hopped on Shades of Blue with The Blue Testament crew.
Russell begins his chat with Aly Trost Martin by divulging his plans for the Chiefs playoff game against the Jaguars before going on to talk about a host of topics including his favorite preseason restaurants, American food and the iconic #7 jersey.
While speaking with Kevin Lopez, Russell discussed the recent World Cup, his professional hopes and dreams, a new JFR-approved chant for the Cauldron and much more.
Russell, who was named club captain ahead of the 2021 season, will look to add to his sparkling accomplishments in 2023 – having already bagged 53 goals and 39 assists across 165 games in all competitions for the club over the last five years. The Scotsman’s 80 combined goals (48) and assists (32) in the MLS regular season are the third most in the league since the start of 2018.
On Monday, Espinoza appeared on Shades of Blue and engaged in a light-hearted discussion around his plans for the future, how MLS has changed since he was drafted in 2008, who is standing out in preseason and more.
Espinoza is entering his 14th season with Sporting KC in 2023 and remains a significant presence and leader in the locker room. All-time, Espinoza ranks second in Sporting history with 368 appearances for the club, only trailing Graham Zusi’s 395.
