Sporting Kansas City midfielder Mikey Lopez has joined the U.S. Under 20 Men's National Team for a training camp starting today at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. One of 23 players selected by head coach Tab Ramos, Lopez will participate in the camp through April 29 in preparation for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey from June 21 thru July 13.
Lopez played in four of the United States' five matches at the 2013 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship earlier this year, as the U.S. finished tournament runners-up in Mexico. The U.S. Under-20's are together again for the first time since the regional championship and will conclude the weeklong camp with a match against the Chivas USA reserves on April 28.
Lopez was drafted by Sporting Kansas City in the first round of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft as a Generation adidas signing out of the University of North Carolina, where he was the ACC Freshman of the Year in his first of two seasons for the Tar Heels.
