Marcel de Jong and Canada earn 0-0 draw at El Salvador in CONCACAF WCQ

Marcel de Jong and the Canadian Men's National Team earned their second consecutive clean sheet in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying with a scoreless draw at El Salvador on Tuesday evening. Through their first two matches in the fourth round, Canada has   four points (1-0-1) and in second place in Group A.


de Jong earned his 41st cap for the Canadian Men's National Team, playing 90 minutes at Estadio Cuscatlán. The defender had three interceptions, two clearances, four tackles and 12 recoveries in a solid defensive performance from the visitors. 

Canada nearly took the lead just before the break as forward Cyle Larin headed a Junior Hoilett cross off the crossbar. Overall, Canada had few clear cut chances but limited El Salvador's opportunities, allowing just one shot on goal in the second half.


Canada returns to CONCACAF World Cup qualifying on March 25, 2016 at home against Mexico followed by a trip to Azteca on March 29, 2016. The top two teams from Group A will advance to the fifth and final round of qualifying.
