Sporting Kansas City forward Marinos Tzionis earned his second straight start of the FIFA international window in Cyprus' final home match of the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League. Cyprus took on Kosovo at Fadil Vokrri Stadium in Pristina, Kosovo, and slipped to a 5-1 loss.
Cyprus finishes fourth in Group 2 of League C and will have to face Gibralter in a play-out in March 2024 to avoid relegation into League D. On March 29, 2022, Cyprus averted relegation with a 2-0 win over Estonia in which Tzionis scored the match-winner in the 19th minute of the contest for his first international goal on the senior team.
This past Saturday, Tzionis netted his second goal for Cyprus in a 1-0 win over Group 2 winners Greece at AEK Arena in Larnaca, Cyprus. The first-year Sporting KC forward will now return to Kansas City for the final two matches of the 2022 Major League Soccer regular season.
First up, Sporting will host the Seattle Sounders at Children's Mercy Park in the club's home finale on Sunday, Oct. 2. Tickets are on sale at SeatGeek.com and come with zero fees as a part of Fan Appreciation Night.
