Matt Besler says Michael Jordan was one of the greatest teammates of all time

Sporting Kansas City defender Matt Besler made his customary appearance on Sports Radio 810 WHB this morning, diving into a discussion about NBA legend Michael Jordan and "The Last Dance" documentary series that aired earlier this spring on ESPN.

Sharing his thoughts on the documentary with Border Patrol hosts Nate Bukaty and Steven St. John, Besler proclaimed Jordan to be one of the best teammates that professional sports has ever seen despite his demanding and sometimes callous demeanor in the locker room.

"Afterwards, everyone was kind of debating, 'Is Michael Jordan a good teammate?' I find that funny because, in my opinion, Jordan was one of the greatest teammates of all time," Besler said. "If you asked me what makes a good teammate, to me it's someone's actions that help the team win. That's what you're there for. It's a professional basketball team. They pay you to try and win basketball games. If that's your job, then Jordan did everything he could to help the team win."

As Sporting's captain, Besler said his leadership style differs than Jordan's. However, there have been times when the center back has had to come down hard on teammates for the betterment of the club.

"I don't think that I need to go into a locker room and just start laying into guys," Besler said. "I have done it before, but I don't do it just to do it. Jordan always did it, and it seems like that's just who he was. I don't know if it was all calculated or not. But if I were to do that, it would be extremely calculated."
