Forward Daniel Salloi is set to become the first Sporting Kansas City Academy product to compete in the MLS All-Star Game as the MLS All-Stars lock horns with the LIGA MX All-Stars in a marquee spectacle on Wednesday night at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.
The 2021 MLS All-Star Game presented by Target will kick off at 8:30 p.m. CT with live coverage on FS1, Univision and the FOX Sports app, pitting the best players from Major League Soccer against the best players from Mexico’s top flight for the first time ever.
Salloi, the lone Sporting representative in the match, has earned his All-Star plaudits with an MLS MVP caliber season as one of the league’s most efficient attackers. The 25-year-old winger leads MLS with 18 combined goals (12) and assists (six) as well as eight combined game-winning goals five) and game-winning assists (three). The unplayable Salloi has shouldered an instrumental role for a Sporting side that occupies second place in the Western Conference, three points behind leaders Seattle Sounders FC with 13 matches still to play between now and Decision Day on Nov. 7.
The MLS All-Star roster was assembled through a combination of fan voting and selections from All-Star head coach Bob Bradley and Commissioner Don Garber. The LIGA MX squad, led by Cruz Azul manager Juan Reynoso, consists primarily of the league’s Balon de Oro winners from each position.
