Sporting Kansas City supporters will have all eyes on Saturday night's clash against the San Jose Earthquakes at Avaya Stadium, slated to kick off at 9:30 p.m. CT on FOX Sports Kansas City, FOX Sports Midwest Plus and FOX Sports GO.
The contest gives Manager Peter Vermes' men the opportunity to keep pressure on leaders FC Dallas at the top of the Western Conference as the playoff picture continues to take shape. The visitors will also welcome back forwards Diego Rubio, Johnny Russell and Daniel Salloi, who have spent the previous week abroad competing for their respective national teams.
For the soccer fanatics seeking more MLS action on Saturday and Sunday, three league matches will be nationally televised this weekend.
Colorado Rapids vs. Atlanta United FC | 2:30 p.m. CT Saturday | Univision & Twitter
Atlanta United FC (16-5-6, 54 points) is in the thick of a heated Supporters' Shield race, one point behind the New York Red Bulls with a game in hand. Prolific striker Josef Martinez has already set the single-season MLS record with 28 goals in 2018, and his chase for 30 will continue against a wobbly Colorado Rapids side (6-15-6, 24 points) that looks destined to miss the playoffs for the fourth time in five years.
D.C. United vs. New York Red Bulls | Noon CT Sunday | ESPN
This might just be the best game of the Week 28 slate. As mentioned above, the Red Bulls (17-7-4, 55 points) hold the slimmest of leads in the Supporters' Shield standings and have a solid chance to claim that trophy for the third time in six seasons. On the opposite side of this rivalry is an upward-trending D.C. United outfit (9-11-7, 34 points) set to play its second match in a seven-game homestand at the new Audi Field. United boasts an 8-2-1 home record this season and sits just two points below the playoff line. Needless to say, this fixture carries plenty of importance in the Eastern Conference.
Chicago Fire vs. Orlando City SC | 4 p.m. CT Sunday | FS1
Let's be real: there aren't many good things to say about the Chicago Fire (6-15-6, 24 points) and Orlando City SC (7-17-3, 24 points) this season. Tied for last place in the Eastern Conference, both sides are all but eliminated from postseason contention after slumbering through terribly disappointing 2018 campaigns. But if you're looking for goals, this might be the game for you. Orlando has leaked a league-high 62 goals this year, while Chicago's 52 goals conceded are the second-most in the East. With Dom Dwyer leading Orlando's front line and Nemanja Nikolic spearheading Chicago's, we can at least hope for a scoring fest in this one.
