This week's BTS captures the sights and sounds from the season opener in Houston, taking viewers inside the locker room as Sporting earned a hard-fought 1-1 road result against the Dynamo. Hear from Manager Peter Vermes and club captain Johnny Russell during the 14-minute episode, which can be seen on SportingKC.com, Sporting Kansas City's YouTube channel and MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
"I'm not going to lie about it. We weren't at our best. To be able to pick up points when you're not at your best, I think it's a good sign especially in difficult places," Russell says. "We've got huge expectations this year. I think it comes off the back of how we finished the year as one of the best teams in the league. We know if we start early then we're going to be up there at the top come the end of the year. We're going to be fighting for titles. At the end of the day, that's what we all want."
Up next, Sporting Kansas City will host the Philadelphia Union in the club's highly anticipated home opener at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Children's Mercy Park with tickets available online at SeatGeek, including the Home Opener Pack. The cross-conference clash will stream free via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and will air locally on Sports Radio 810 WHB and LA Grande 1340 AM.
