For the third straight year, a freshly wrapped KC Streetcar is hitting the tracks through the heart of downtown Kansas City to celebrate the start of a new Major League Soccer season.
This year’s look, however, is a first-of-its-kind design developed to honor the pride and passion of Sporting Kansas City supporters.
The Kansas City Cauldron Streetcar, which officially went into service on Thursday after Cauldron members were the first to see and step inside the streetcar during a special event at Union Station, features several unique elements created and customized in collaboration with the Cauldron.
“The Kansas City Cauldron is excited to have the first ever fan driven streetcar design in KC,” said KC Cauldron President Stephanie Burton. “This is a chance for our longtime members to see how far our organization has come thanks to their dedication and support, and for those who haven't yet been introduced to the Cauldron to learn more about us. Community is at the core of everything the Cauldron does so we're excited for the tremendous opportunity to be aligned with the KC Streetcar which has done so much for Kansas City. We can't wait to see fans hop on the KC Cauldron Streetcar to showcase their love of Sporting KC along with us!”
The KC Cauldron Streetcar is the first in KC Streetcar history to feature different designs on each side. While both sides showcase the Cauldron’s name and logo at the center of the streetcar, one side features the club’s contemporary Sporting Blue and Dark Indigo color scheme while the opposite side pays tributes to the colorful Wizards era when the Cauldron was first established.
Emblazoned across the KC Cauldron Streetcar are the lyrics to the “We Love Ya” chant which emanates from the Supporters’ Stand at Children’s Mercy Park on matchdays. The team’s seven all-time major championship trophies are illustrated near the top of the streetcar -- an element that carries over from the very first Sporting KC Streetcar in 2020 – and completing the eye-catching exterior is an array of confetti in a nod to the club’s popular post-match tradition for celebrating victories at Children’s Mercy Park.
The KC Cauldron Streetcar also features 24 seats branded with iconic jerseys in team history along with the names and numbers of four active Sporting KC players (Johnny Russell, Daniel Salloi, Roger Espinoza and Graham Zusi) and four MLS All-Stars from the Wizards era (Preki, Digital Takawira, Jimmy Conrad and Mo Johnston).
The 2.2-mile streetcar route runs seven days a week between River Market on the north end to Union Station and Crown Center on the south end. The streetcar system has provided nearly 10 million passenger trips since opening in 2016 and recently expanded hours in response to an increase in ridership and downtown activities.
