No Other Pod: Previewing the 2021 season with forward Daniel Salloi

At long last, the curtains raise Saturday night.

That's when Sporting Kansas City will kick off the highly anticipated 2021 MLS season, visiting the New York Red Bulls in a compelling inter-conference clash at Red Bull Arena. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT with live coverage on Bally Sports Kansas City, Bally Sports Midwest Plus, FOX Sports GO, Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM.

In a wide-ranging preview of the season ahead, Sporting Kansas City forward Daniel Salloi was the centerpiece in the newest episode of No Other Pod, a Sporting-centric podcast hosted by passionate and well-informed supporters Jimmy Mack and Daniel Kooser.

Born and raised in Hungary, Salloi moved to Kansas City as an AFS exchange student in 2014 and joined Sporting's academy while attending Blue Valley Northwest High School. He inked an MLS contract as a 19-year-old in 2016 and enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2017, tallying six goals and scoring the match-winner in the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final against the Red Bulls at Children's Mercy Park.

Salloi hit new heights in 2018, earning Golden Boot honors for the club by scoring 14 times in MLS play and 16 times overall as one of the league's most prolific youngsters. Although his productivity has cooled over the last two seasons, Salloi will aim to make 2021 a year of sweet reclamation. The rangy winger certainly has it in his toolkit, as evidenced his sizzling form in 2018 and his consistent performance throughout the 2021 preseason.

In conjunction with Saturday's opener, Sporting fans are invited to attend an outdoor watch party at Children’s Mercy Park when the club hosts its Season Kickoff presented by Michelob Ultra. Supporters can secure their free ticket to the Season Kickoff at SeatGeek.com or the SeatGeek app, with stadium gates opening at 5:30 p.m. CT and select concessions and SportingStyle locations open to guests. The watch party will utilize distanced outdoor seating in the stadium bowl with the match shown on the north and south videoboards. Face coverings will be mandatory for all in attendance.
