Kansas City Star sports reporter Blair Kerkhoff stopped by Compass Minerals National Performance Center this week to sit down with Sporting Kansas City Manager and Sporting Director Peter Vermes.
The conversation is captured on the Star's SportsBeat KC podcast, which has now surpassed more than 1,000 episodes, as Vermes reflected on the team's 2022 season before looking ahead to the upcoming FIFA World Cup and the club's 2023 campaign.

The only individual to win MLS Cup as a player and coach with the same team, Vermes is the longest tenured head coach with one club in Major League Soccer all-time and has now participated in the most MLS matches as a player and/or head coach in MLS history.
Vermes played seven seasons in Major League Soccer from 1996-2002 and has served as Sporting’s Manager for 14 seasons since August 2009. In 2022, Vermes led Sporting to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinals - making SKC the only club to reach the U.S. Open Cup semifinals, MLS conference semifinals or Concacaf Champions League semifinals in each of the last six seasons since 2017.
