Thursday at 7 p.m. CT, SportingKC.com will stream a classic match from 1998 that saw legendary playmaker Preki deliver perhaps the greatest single-game performance in club history.
On Sept. 5, 1998, Preki inspired a 5-1 home victory over the San Jose Clash with three goals and two assists at Arrowhead Stadium. The stunning salvo is one of seven occasions in which a player has scored or assisted on five goals in an MLS match.
San Jose took an early lead through Ronald Cerritos, but the hosts responded quickly with strikes from Mo Johnston and Preki to build a 2-1 halftime advantage. Preki turned on the afterburners in the second half, scoring twice more and assisting Paul Wright to seal the emphatic win.
Per MLS rules, Thursday's stream will be geofenced to viewers in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska.
