At the halfway point of the 2017 MLS regular season, Sporting Kansas City’s stingy defensive record is on pace to break long-standing league records. And as Peter Vermes’ men prepare for a visit to the LA Galaxy this Saturday at StubHub Center, two integral members of the club’s dominant backline appeared on Sports Radio 810 WHB as Seth Sinovic and Matt Besler joined the Sporting KC Show and The Border Patrol, respectively.
In Monday’s discussion with hosts Nate Bukaty, Carter Augustine and Jillian Carroll, Sinovic assessed his team’s recent performance against the San Jose Earthquakes and saved plenty of praise for goalkeeper Tim Melia, who leads MLS with nine shutouts, a 0.65 goals against average and an 82.8 save percentage.
Besler joined Bukaty and Steven St. John this morning, first revealing some provocative details about his forthcoming book entitled “No Other Home,” which will be released later this year (click here to pre-order). The Kansas City native went on to compare the 2017 team with Sporting KC’s 2012 and 2013 squads, noting that this year’s side has thrived putting the opposition under constant pressure while minimizing mistakes in possession.
Besler also looks ahead to Saturday’s matchup with the Galaxy — a showdown in which both teams will be gunning for all three points. The Western Conference clash will kick off at 9:30 p.m. CT on FOX Sports Kansas City, FOX Sports Midwest, FOX Sports GO, Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM.
