Sporting Kansas City forward Johnny Russell made his first appearance on The Border Patrol on Wednesday morning, joining hosts Nate Bukaty and Steven St. John on Sports Radio 810 WHB.
The 28-year-old newcomer covered plenty of ground in his 25-minute segment on the program, discussing his affinity for American muscle cars, his favorite places to eat in Kansas City, his budding friendship with fellow forwards Khiry Shelton and Daniel Salloi, Sunday's big test against fellow Supporters' Shield contenders Columbus Crew SC, and his long-awaited return to the Scotland Men's National Team.

"For years, a lot of people have seen (MLS) as a retirement league, but it's definitely shown to be attracting more young players," Russel said. "Playing in MLS is something that I've wanted to do, so I'm just thankful that I've got the opportunity. When you come into the league now, there are a lot of young guys playing at different clubs. That can only be a good thing for the league, and there are more players who are wanting to come over here."
Sporting KC hosts Columbus at 5 p.m. CT Sunday in a Retro Night showdown at Children's Mercy Park. A limited number of tickets for the match, including standing-room only tickets, are available via SeatGeek.com. Russell will be available for selection against Crew SC before joining Scotland for an international friendly against Mexico on Saturday, June 2, taking place at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City (7 p.m. CT, FS1).
