Games are coming thick and fast for a Sporting Kansas City side that jumped to second place in the Western Conference table following Saturday's 3-0 win over Real Salt Lake. With tonight's home match against the New York Red Bulls followed by an inaugural visit to Minnesota United FC on Sunday, there is no shortage of talking points for a team that has allowed just three goals through eight games.
Two players largely responsible for Sporting KC's excellent defensive start appeared on Sports Radio 810 this week to recap the rivalry win against RSL and preview a pair of upcoming contests. Center back and captain Matt Besler was on The Border Patrol Tuesday morning before goalkeeper Tim Melia joined The Program a few hours later.
Tuesday evening featured an excellent episode of the Sporting KC Show, as hosts Nate Bukaty and Carter Augustine were joined by Matt Lawrence, Sporting KC's color commentator on FOX Sports Kansas City. In addition to discussing the club's impressive form, Lawrence shared fascinating stories about his long playing career, which included a college stint in the United States and a long professional run in his native England, where he faced the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.
