Recap: Sporting KC forward Daniel Salloi an unused substitute as Hungary falls 1-0 to Finland in UEFA Nations League opener

Daniel Salloi - Sporting KC vs. New York City FC - March 7, 2018

Sporting Kansas City forward Daniel Salloi was an unused substitute on Saturday as Hungary fell 1-0 to Finland in their 2081-19 UEFA Nations League opener at Tampere Stadium in Tampere, Finland.

Teemu Pukki fired Finland ahead in the seventh minute, giving the hosts all they needed to claim victory at the expense of a Hungary side that held 66 percent of possession and a 16-9 advantage in shot attempts.

Salloi remains in contention for his first Hungary cap at the senior level when the Magyars welcome Greece for their second UEFA Nations League clash on Tuesday at Groupama Arena in Budapest. Kickoff is set for 1:45 p.m. CT with a live stream on ESPN+.

Hungary, Finland, Greece and Estonia comprise Group C2 in the inaugural UEFA Nations League, with a double-round-robin seeing each team play six times between now and November. The first-place finisher will earn promotion to League B for the 2020-21 UEFA Nations League, while the last-place team will drop to League D.

A 22-year-old product of the Sporting KC Academy, Salloi has represented Hungary four times in 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying, notably notching a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over Cyprus last November.

Salloi will return to Sporting KC following Tuesday's matchup in Budapest and figures to be available for next Saturday's showdown between Sporting KC and the San Jose Earthquakes at Avaya Stadium.
