The spotlight will shine on Sporting Kansas City midfielder Gianluca Busio at 2 p.m. CT on Tuesday when the talented player joins a Rising Stars MLS Player Panel on Instagram Live.
Busio is one of three young standouts on panel alongside Jesus Ferreira of FC Dallas and Benji Michel of Orlando City SC. The event will run on Major League Soccer's Instagram account, hosted by soccer celebrity and content creator Elischa Edouard.
Since signing an MLS contract as a 15-year-old in 2017, Busio has become the most impactful teenager in Sporting history. Capable of playing multiple positions in the midfield and attack, the wunderkind has recorded six goals and six assists in 57 competitive appearances, including 30 starts.
The 2020 season may have been shortened by the pandemic, but it was Busio’s busiest Sporting campaign to date. He started 18 of 23 appearances in all competitions, tallying two goals and four assists while featuring in all but two games throughout the year with a career-high 1,275 minutes played in the regular season.
Busio and Sporting will open their 2021 campaign on Saturday, visiting the New York Red Bulls in a 7 p.m. CT kickoff on Bally Sports Kansas City, Bally Sports Midwest Plus, Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM. That same night, supporters are invited to attend the Season Kickoff presented by Michelob Ultra as Sporting hosts an outdoor watch party at Children's Mercy Park.
