Out of a ridiculously talented pool of players, 12 were invited to take part in what will be an everlasting experience. Furthermore, three players were chosen as alternates and could be utilized as needed.
Obviously, we met our goal of putting together a roster for this event. But the greatest aspect of the entire experience was watching players flock in from various affiliate clubs to compete together. Crisp passing from a Sporting St. Louis player combining with a member of Sporting St. Croix while everyone represented the Sporting crest. The competitiveness -- combined with camaraderie -- was a joy to watch.
On a personal note, it was unbelievable to see the academy affiliate system working as the talent from everyone involved was so much more advanced than when I played at that age. I feel privileged to be a part of a system that will continue to offer exclusive opportunities to its members.
I would like to thank all of the parents and players for making the trip from various clubs around the Midwest. Also, a special thank you goes out to the academy technical staff that did an incredible job making this event run smoothly.
