Soni Mustivar named to Haiti's preliminary roster for Copa America Centenario

Sporting Kansas City midfielder Soni Mustivar was named to the Haiti Men's National Team's preliminary roster for the Copa America Centenario on Monday. The final 23-man roster will be announced by May 20.

Mustivar is one of three MLS players on the preliminary squad, joining Zachary Herivaux (New England Revolution) and Derrick Etienne (New York Red Bulls). Haiti will face Colombia in an international friendly on May 29 before competing in Group B of the Copa America Centenario against Peru (June 4), Brazil (June 8) and Ecuador (June 12).

A dual citizen of Haiti and France, Mustivar has made 11 international appearances for Haiti since debuting in 2013. He has earned three caps this year, including two World Cup qualifiers and a playoff win over Trinidad and Tobago that punched Les Grenadiers' ticket to the Copa America.

Mustivar, 26, signed for Sporting Kansas City before the 2015 season and was named the club's Co-Defender of the Year in October. Last year he led MLS with more than six interceptions per 90 minutes played and boasted a 15-5-6 record as a starter across all competitions. Mustivar started the first four games of 2016 and has missed the last six matches with a hamstring injury, but was upgraded to questionable last week.

The Copa America Centenario will be played in 10 cities across the U.S. from June 3-26. The competition is a celebration of the 100th anniversary of CONMEBOL and the Copa America, and will be the first edition of the tournament played outside of South America. The U.S., Mexico, Argentina and Brazil headline the 16-team field.
