The Sporting Club Network encompasses more than simply youth soccer. Coaches, managers, parents, administrators and adult athletes from a variety of sports make the Network the true sporting club that it is. Although many events do have a focus on the beautiful game, it was the other sports that were the focus of Tuesday’s clinic.
Just days after its debut, the new turf fields on the east side of Swope Soccer Village hosted the Network’s first Showcase Mini Clinic. Network members Heartland Youth Rugby, Kansas City Blues, Prairie Fire and Kansas City Gaelic Athletic Club were joined by Sporting Kansas City players Jacob Peterson and Eric Kronberg to teach participants the fundamentals of their respective sport.
For many, the clinic offered their first experience at playing rugby, ultimate frisbee, Gaelic football and hurling. As they rotated from sport to sport, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of each while being challenged by new movements and new concepts.
The clinic was topped off when Kronberg was challenged by the Kansas City Blues to see who could kick a rugby ball the farthest. After a Blues player had his turn, Kronberg stepped up and knocked it over the goal from midfield on his first ever attempt at kicking a rugby ball.
The Sporting Club Network extends their thanks to all of the coaches and participants for making this one-of-a kind clinic such a huge success. For the latest news and information, follow the Sporting Club Network on Twitter and Facebook.
