Two Sporting Kansas City Academy sides are gearing up for a record-setting Generation adidas Cup as the U-17s and U-15s head down to Bradenton, FL. from April 2-9 to compete in the prestigious MLS NEXT event. Led by head coaches Chris O’Neal and Luis Pacheco, Sporting’s U-17s and U-15s have been hard at work since returning from the December break, competing in MLS NEXT competitions and preparing for GA Cup.
The U-17s have been on a tear since MLS NEXT resumed play in mid-February, earning five results in their last six matches. Posting a 3-1-2 record in those six matches, the U-17s own a 4-0 win over the Houston Dynamo Academy and a 5-0 win over RGV Toros FC. With offensive firepower and a strong defense, The U-17s have outscored opponents 14-4 and held four clean sheets since returning to play.
Sporting’s U-17s will be in Group 6, opening Generation adidas Cup against Charlotte FC on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. CT. The following day they face their international opponent Atlas F.C. out of Liga MX at 1 p.m. CT. To close out the group stage they take on Toronto FC on Monday, April 3 at 1 p.m. CT.
